Alamere Falls

Some friends of us suggested that we should do this hike together. I’ve never heard of it before but it turned out to be a great recommendation. Alamere Falls is a waterfall near Bolinas that flows directly into the Pacific Ocean. The entire hike is a little over 4 miles one way without a lot of elevation change and the falls at the end of it are spectacular. At least they are this year thanks to a decent rain season.

Ohlone Wilderness v2

We already did the Ohlone Wilderness Trail thru-hike in 2015 and it was a great experience so we decided to repeat it in May 2016. Thanks to a better rainy season and 20 degree lower temperatures this was supposed to go much smoother than last time. But things didn’t work out that way.

Waihee Ridge Trail on Maui

Though we spent most of our time on Maui at the beach and drinking Lava Flows we did manage to get one hike in. The Waihee Ridge Trail is a short 4 mile roundtrip hike on Maui’s north shore with amazing views along the way.

Sky Pond in Rocky Mountain National Park

For our second hike in Rocky Mountain National Park we decided to hike to Sky Pond. The weather forecast was predicting rain and we wanted something below the tree line. We’d also have to catch a flight home later that day, so we didn’t have a lot of time. Sky Pond with around 8 miles total ticked all our boxes.

Mount Ida in Rocky Mountain National Park

We spent Labor Day weekend in Rocky Mountain National Park. After we spent Saturday driving through the park and doing a short hike to acclimate to the altitude we decided to hike Mount Ida on Sunday. The Rangers warned us about potential thunderstorms in the afternoon, so we got up early and reached the trailhead at Milner Pass around 7am. Starting that early also meant that we could enjoy spectacular views of the sunrise on the drive to the trailhead and saw elk enjoying their breakfast really close to the road.
